Who is Horst-Georg Fuchs?

Horst-Georg Fuchs

My name is Horst-Georg Fuchs. I am an Austrian entrepreneur believing that innovation and technical progress is the number one force behind economic growth. I believe that if we can build something that makes people's lives easier & better, then we should.

While I am a big family guy, who considers the regular Sunday breakfasts we have within the family as the time I enjoy most, the focus of this blog will be mostly on topics around entrepreneurship, politics, mental health and mindset. And sometimes about my favourite hobby, Liverpool Football Club.

My professional career

My interest in building a company myself started when I was about 12 years old. At that time, my entrepreneurial idol, Didi Mateschitz, the founder of Red Bull, decided to buy Red Bull Salzburg. As a big football fan and as a person who always wanted to do more with my life, this event inspired me. It put the thought in my mind how cool it would be to build a company and buy a football club myself. While my interest in buying a football club declined my love for entrepreneurship only grew since then.

After high school, I started to study economics, gained my first entrepreneurial experience in a network marketing company selling nutritional supplements, worked as a telemarketer for a German sales trainer and worked in my father's company for two years.

At the end of December 2017, by coincidence, I met my later co-founders, Mathias and Markus, to whom I could not be more grateful! Together we have started to build this SaaS company called "Xaleon". After many ups and downs, a strong pivot after just 9 months, and many long work weeks, Xaleon was acquired by the German MDAX stock-listed company TeamViewer in January 2021, in which I worked in different sales management positions until January 2023.

My interest in mental health

Mental health and mindset are topics that follow me since I am 15 years old.

Maybe you remember, in school there were mainly three kinds of people. There were:

  1. the cool kids. Everybody respected them. Everybody wanted to be friends with. Girls were interested in them.
  2. the kids in the middle, who did not belong to the exclusive, cool gang, but who also were not particularly "uncool". And lastly there were...
  3. the uncool kids, who were not respected at all, who were bullied sometimes (or regularly). Nobody wanted to be friends with them, and girls were not interested in them at all.

Unfortunately, I belonged to the third group until I was about 16 years old. I was bullied, openly disrespected and generally did not have a good time at school at that time. Looking back a lot of the bullying came due to me and my behaviour. But that did not make the experience much nicer, and certainly did not prevent the mental scars it left. I was very unhappy at that time.

So, without knowing that this term "mental health" existed, the topic was present to me from a very early age. After high school, I started reading books about how our brain works. How the cooperation between our conscious mind and subconscious mind works. How our thought and belief patterns impact the quality of our life in literally every category. Financial independence, career success, the quality of our relationships, physical and mental wellbeing. All of it strongly depends on the quality of your thought and belief patterns.

That fascinated me then and still fascinates me today.

What can you expect from my blog?

I will share my personal thoughts on topics and challenges that are relevant at that time. Personally, writing helps me to clarify my thoughts. I have hundreds of notes in my iPhone in which I think through a problem that I was facing at that time. I believe that I think through a problem in a quite structured and unattached way. For me, there are no "no-go's". Every thought is allowed. And if a thought path feels important, I will follow that path no matter if it could be considered a "no-go" or not. By sharing those thoughts in the blog, I want to make my thought process available to more than just me. I want to make it available to YOU, and I hope you will benefit from it.

I will lay out my thought process on how I think through the topic at hand. I will take different perspectives and look at the topic from multiple views. I will drill down and go into as much detail as I can. And by doing that I aspire to help you to get at least one new perspective.

Disclaimer: As everyone, I am constantly learning and growing, so my thoughts on a topic might be different in 2 years than today. It will be interesting to see how my understanding will change over time.

Lastly, I know that what I don´t know will always be more than what I do know. So please, comment below the posts. I am so interested in your opinion! Let´s have a dialog!
